Future Planning

Selecting a course is very important. It determines what you will be after schooling. Planning what school to enter for college life is also essential. Now what have I done in preparation for my college life?
Last year, we took the UPCAT or the University of the Philippines College Admission Test. Before taking the test, a form was to be filled up with what UP school one is planning to study, and what course one is taking up. This was to be filled up depending on one’s first choice and second choice. But only the top honor students are allowed to fill the first choice place with UP Manila or UP Diliman. I was one of the top honor students then so I placed UP Manila as first choice and UP Diliman as second choice. (Actually, I am not sure which campus I wrote as my first choice.) the courses I placed in the form were Accountancy and Industrial Engeneering, I chose Accountancy because my mother and sister took up that course. I chose Industrial Engineering because my brothers are both Engineers and my mother also said that that course is also good.
When the testing day came, I was so nervous. I was scheduled on a Sunday, 6:00 Am. But I was also glad because I saw many of my batchmates in my elementary school, also taking the test. There is no scheduled break so everyone must bring his or her own snacks. At first, I thought that majority of the UP College applicants is not that rich but when the proctor requested all cellphones to be surrendered, almost everyone stood up! This just means that almost everyone has this product of modernization. After the test, I never hoped to pass because it was so difficult! I really had a hard time answering it. But just this January, the results came. I was so happy to pass the UPCAT. And the reults say that I am better off an Industrial Engineer than an Accountant.
Indeed, I really want to study at UP in college. But the UPCAT results placed me in UP Diliman. It is very far from Cubu, from my family, so I am having a hard time thinking if I should study there.
We also took the DOST scholarship test. It was a test to select students to be given scholarship. But the scholarship test was for Science courses only. Eventhough it was only for Science courses, I also took it because everyone seems to be taking the test. I do not like Scince courses that much. Taking the scolarship test was just for the mere sake of taking it!
This Saturday, MC, Razel and I am planning to take the Univerity of San Carlos College Admission test. We are supposed to have mentoring sessions but we decided to miss one Saturday for the first time. We only have to bring pictures, pencils and the admission payment. I really hope to pass this test and study at USC. All of my older siblings studied there at college. And my mother said that the school also has good training and facilities for Accountancy, my first priority course.
Going to college does not mean parting ways with my old high school friends. This is just a means of gaining new friends and exposing oneself to a bigger world.
