Birthday Celebration

Yesterday, January 28, 2007, ws the 2nd birthday of my niece. It was her first birthday wherein her father, my brother, was out of the country for work. Before the actual birthday, her father said that there shall ba no party to be held because his money shall be saved for their future consumption. But then, my mother insisted that there should be one. And so it was done.
The days before the birthday, everything was prepared. There was a big banner with the celebrant’s name posted on it. Party hats and nametags for the children were prepared. Candies and other sweets were packed in small bags for all the children. There was a reserved cake and a big container of dirty ice cream. A clown was also invited to host the show.
On the day of the said event, we attended mass by 10:00 AM. When we returned home, all the cooking were done. Around 3:00 PM, children chairs and tabled were delivered at our house. Every table was then decorated by a flower balloon placed at its center. All were placed in our small garage. We then decorated the tables where the foods are to be placed. It was just my mother who fixed the tables but they appeared as if we had catering services! Then, my other brother and my sister-in-law went out of the house to get the cake and the balloons. When they arrived, the cake was then placed at the center of the table. The balloons were placed individually at each children’s chair. Everything was so colorful!
Around 5:00 PM, the party started. Everyone was attentively participating on the show because of the very funny clown. His being a homosexual added in brightening the show. He had parlor games witb of course, prizes. Everyone participated well in the games, including the parents of the children invited. I did not join in the games because I am afraid to win all the prizes! I only participated when the clown threw questions at us. Hi questions were quite tricky but only I answered it correctly! Everyone was proud of me! There is always the statement “Taga-UP man gud!” Of course, I am also happy for answering the questions. But what I had for the prize were combs, fans, and others! All of them were for girls! I did not enjoy the prize but the honor I gained… The celebrant was then sung a birthday song. When she blew the candles, there came party poppers. There was crepe paper all over the house that moment!
The program ended with the dinner. We only served a few variety of food but there were a lot of leftovers. There were a lot of picture and video takings. the visitors then went, bringing with them balloons and bags of candies. Everyone had fun during the party.
Birthdays are just celebrated once every year. It is remembering the day of one’s birth and the means of determining how long has one lived on earth. We, Catholics allow birthday celebrations. I am happy to be a Catholic then, because I love celebrating my birthday. But afterall, its’s not important how many years you add in your life. It is how you live your life through the years!
