Christmas Spirit

Christmas is a time of sharing, giving, eating together, and having fun. It is most awaited by the people for the whole year. Children receive cash and other goods from their relatives and exchange gifts with their friends in school and in the community. People of different carrers who get salaries also get excited to receive bonuses. It is really a time of merry making and fun. But do we realize the true value and the essence of Christmas as Christians? Christmas is not just a season of gifts, foods, and games. It is the season when we commemorate the birth of our Savior Jesus Christ. People often neglect this fact and just do what they used to do during this time. It is indeed the time of the year whenwe give thanks and celebrate the birthday of our Messiah. For God so loved the world, He gave us His only son who sacrificed and died to save us from sins. Let us look closely at the word “Christmas”. When there is no Christ, “mas” is left. It is somewhat like “Without Christ, ‘Many Are Sad (MAS)’”. It is like being a Christian. When you get Christ as well, “ian” is left. This could also mean that “Without Christ, ‘I Am Nothing (IAN)’”. You see, we can really interpret many things just by simply looking at the letters used in “Christmas and “Christian”. The Yuletide season is indeed a happy season for me. Let this season be a time of love, not only for each other, but also to Jesus. May all Christians all over the world value the essence of this season and may the Spirit of Christmas be always in our hearts.
